Big Beauty

The UK cosmetics market is huge! It is rapidly growing all the time and in fact it has been named as the third largest market operating in the UK.

If any of you wear make up like me you will most likely know what brands you love and what brands you do not, you know what works for you and what doesn’t. But do you consider if the make up brands you are using and supporting are perhaps cruelty free? I must admit I do not eagerly look into the make up I am buying which I probably should, as I buy out of convenience and usually buy as and when I need certain products.

A number of big brands within the beauty industry are known for being not cruelty free and that has put them under scrutiny for some time by many consumers. An example of this you may be thinking of is Mac. This is because their products are sold in China and China requires animal testing to happen on finished cosmetics in order to be sold. They may not be testing on animals themselves, but they approve of and pay for any required by law animal testing to occur on their products.

A popular make up brand and personally one of my favourites for base make up, is Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. They are open about never testing their products or any of their ingredients on animals. Fenty however is not a vegan make up brand but does have an extensive line of Vegan products.

Another skincare and beauty brand you may also think of is The Body Shop. In which 100% of their products are vegetarian and now over half are vegan too! By being vegetarian, this means that they are free from any animal-derived ingredients. They have been open in stating that they have been campaigning against animal testing in cosmetics for decades now.
